Bishop Michael Curry delivers an ‘African-American gospel church’-style sermon at the royal wedding article | 20th May 2018

He hadn’t met Meghan Markle before being invited to make the rousing sermon that briefly stole the show at her wedding, but his star turn is set to impact the Most Reverend Michael Curry’s life for years to come.

Reverend Curry, the first black leader of America’s Episcopal church and a noted social justice activist, was chosen by Ms Markle to represent her birthplace at her hour-long wedding ceremony with Prince Harry.

Reverend Curry’s unorthodox and theatrical sermon garnered bemused looks from assembled royals, but captured the hearts of famous attendees in St George’s Chapel, and many TV viewers.

He also drew wide praise in the United States for bringing a gospel-style touch of home to celebrate the crowning of an American princess.
